FAQ

Do the paddles get hot? Is this treatment painful?

No, not at all. Lipolaser is considered to be a cold, or low level, laser because the skin stays cool while it is heating the fat cells below. The paddles will become slightly warm toward the end of each six minute cycle. The treatment is so comfortable and relaxing some clients may even fall asleep.

What happens during a treatment?

We begin by taking measurements of each area being treated as you lay on a comfortable spa bed. A Certified Lumislim Technician places six multi-diode paddles (48 diodes in total) on your targeted areas and secures the paddles in place with tensor bandages. Two smaller probes are placed under the arms or near the groin area to engage the lymph system in releasing fat. The machine is turned on and you are free to relax, read and listen to music while the lasers go to work. Every six minutes the paddles are moved (usually an inch up or down) for a total of 18 minutes (or three times) per treatment.

After removing the paddles, you will stand on a Whole Body Vibration machine platform for 10 minutes to assist your body in releasing the free fatty acids, glycerol and water. (A visit to the bathroom is often needed prior to this second phase). You control the speed of the WBV to your comfort level. On the wall are pictures of suggested exercises you may wish do while using the WBV to enhance your results.

What is Whole Body Vibration (WBV)?

Clients will incorporate the use of a whole body vibration (WBV) platform for 10 minutes after each treatment. WBV stimulates all cells in the body to function at a higher rate, which in turn increases the metabolism causing more fuel to burn, accelerating weight loss.

WBV causes increased local circulation to the targeted lipolaser areas, in turn giving the visible cellulite area a “smoother” look. The vibrations work from the inside out. Because WBV stimulates all cells in the body, increases blood flow and oxygen intake and stimulates metabolism, it helps to flush out toxins. Waste products are expelled at a cellular, lymphatic and excretion level.

LipoLaser is shown to release 40 to 60 grams of fat during a typical 30-40 minute waistline treatment; this represents 400-500 calories. Your whole body vibration session following the laser treatment will ensure the 400-500 calories of fat loss are not reabsorbed by the fat cells.

Where does the fat go?

The free fatty acids are absorbed by the lymphatic system; the glycerol and water diffuse into the total body water, pass through the blood stream and are eliminated in the urine. This process is enhanced with the whole body vibration machine at the end of each treatment, along with at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity later the same day, ideally within 4 hours of the treatment.

How long does it take to see results?

Measurable inch loss may be immediate and even more significant the next day. Remember that lipolaser and whole body vibration treatments are the first phase, and need to be followed up with cardio exercise the same day, along with lots of water and healthy food. As you continue treatments and the follow up protocol, further inch loss will take place.

How many inches can I expect to lose?

While it varies from person to person, on average you can expect a total loss of at least 1 inch per treatment. Since the body continues to metabolize the released fat for up to 72 hours after each session, we find measuring at the beginning of each treatment is best for consistency. Of course, you are free to measure yourself at home also.

Will I lose weight along with the inches?

While inch loss is the primary purpose of lipolaser, some clients also find they lose several pounds while receiving a series of treatments. Lipolaser is shown to release 40 to 60 grams of fat during a typical treatment. This represents 400-500 calories. The whole body vibration session and 30+ minutes of cardiovascular exercise following each lipolaser treatment will help to ensure these calories are not reabsorbed by the fat cells.

Do I need to exercise and diet during my treatments?

Think of lipolaser treatments as filling up your car with gas, and the whole body vibration as starting your engine…it is still up to you to press down the gas pedal to get your car moving! Similarly, for your body to properly metabolize the contents released from the fat cells, you need to get your body moving for at least 30 minutes on the day of a treatment. If no exercise is performed, the released contents can be reabsorbed back into fat cells.

You are not asked to diet during your treatments, although it is a great time to start. To get the best results and make the most of your treatments, it is recommended you eat a balanced, healthy diet focused on lean protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and restrict processed foods. Alcohol can interfere with your metabolism functioning optimally, and is not advised during your series of treatments. Increasing your water intake to approximately 8 glasses per day will greatly assist your metabolism and your results.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on your body and the outcome you wish to achieve. If you only have a few small areas to spot reduce, such as love handles or slight tummy bulge, 3 or 4 treatments may be sufficient. To achieve any significant inch loss, a series of 8 or more treatments will likely be needed.

We offer free consultations to discuss your specific concerns and offer a suggested treatment plan.

How long do results last?

Inch loss from lipolaser treatments can be maintained with a healthy lifestyle, meaning sensible eating and exercise habits, and a stable body weight. Some clients may wish to return for additional treatments to assist in maintaining or attaining further inch loss.

How long are the treatments?

The first appointment takes about an hour to take measurements and ensure all of your questions are answered, in addition to the lipolaser and whole body vibration treatments. Each appointment to follow lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Is lipolaser safe?

Yes, absolutely. The technology for cold, low-level lasers, such as the Lumislim lipolaser, has been studied and used for over 30 years in many biomedical purposes, including wound healing, pain relief, and inflammation. Lipolaser treatments are approved by Health Canada and all treatments are administered by a fully trained and Certified Lumislim Technician.

Can anyone have lipolaser treatments? Are there any contraindications?

Most people are good candidates for lipolaser, with the following exceptions: individuals who are pregnant or lactating, have epilepsy or cancer, a heart or serious immune condition, liver, kidney or thyroid disorders, and uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension.

Prior to starting any lipolaser treatments, all clients are required to complete a Health Questionnaire. If you have any concerns, please speak to your physician prior to beginning any treatments. (We can provide you with a description of lipolaser technology and the Lumislim machine.)

Are there any side effects with lipolaser?

The only known side effect is temporary hyperpigmentation / hypopigmentation in individuals with dark skin. If you have any concerns, please see your doctor first.

What is the cost for lipolaser treatments?

We offer packages to keep the cost of each treatment at a reasonable, affordable rate. Please see our pricing here.
